Snow Melt, Red Zinc Edition
“Melting Snow @ Mountie Pass”, 11×14 oil on canvas, by Rog Lyngaas, 21aug07, using choate7 non-toxic palette.
When I hike in the mountains I get a big good feeling while cresting a pass. This painting attempts to recreate that feeling. In this case the mountain pass’ trees, suffered normal winter damage from the nearly 13 feet of snow that is common in the mountains. The remaining snow is due to the fact that 13 feet snowfall equates to over 25 foot drifts. Just a few weeks prior this pass was basically impassable due to the deep melting snow holes.
