“Mist Before the Mountain”, 10×8 oil on canvasboard, study, by Rog Lyngaas, 16sep08, using Choate7 palette.
Have you noticed that fall is coming. This painting reminds me of a place I climb to view every year when hunting. If I get there between 8am and 10am in the morn, I get to see the mist before the mountain. The mist that rises but not too far due to inversion from dewpoint evaporation.
This is the view looking out from the 1st saddle of the climb to the top of Jumbo Mountain [a 9700 foot tall FAT mountain near Featherville, Idaho]. It is looking across the South Fork of the Boise river, which at this point is about 1500 feet below. It is a grandiose view.
It will be a cold winter in Idaho this year. OK it is September, but since I have the Wisconsin blood, I have already gone through the metabolism change, and have gained that extra 10 pound for the winter, in the last 3 weeks. And I am still gaining. And all this before October 1st. Usually this does not happen until mid October. So winter may come early. Enjoy.
