Greetings fra Hilo! Uncle Billy is being good to me. Facing the Koi pond courtyard we’ve been enjoying birds, mongeese, & Brazillian Coqui frogs speaking to us in tongues 24-7. Today’s painting is hanging in the 8th street center in Buhl, Idaho.

Shade Tree @ Niagra Springs

This post is the first with my new Nokia E63 phone.  When I post using the phone the format will always resemble what you see here.  What you are seeing is the evolution to real time painting posting.  I may still post to the flicker site, but I have not decided yet on that.

By the way, this painting now sits along side “Ramona” and “Chopin’s Etude @ Niagra Springs”.  They are in the year long show in the Buhl Arts Council at the Eigth Street Center; in Buhl Idaho.  I will be posting a detailed web page on the Plein Air Paintout, sometime in the next few weeks.

Attitude about Etudes…

Chopin's Etude at Niagra Springs

“Chopin’s Etude @ Niagra Springs”, 8×10 PA oil on canvaboard, by Rog Lyngaas, Choate7 Palette, 4jun09.

This was the first of three plein air paintings I performed at the 2009 Buhl Plein Air Paintout.  I consider it a study, since the original composition was complex, and I intend to repaint at this location in the future.  It is now on exhibit [and for sale] for the next year along with last years creation called “Ramona”.  I was able to reframe Ramona in a better frame.  Below is Fred Choate expounding to me the natural composition.

Fred Expounding

Of course, below is I, absorbing all from my mentor, but listening to the river speak in another language.  Obviously, I listened to the later more than the former.

Rog Painting

This was a busy day in that Fred and I had to return to the Basement Gallery, for the June Reception at night.  It looks nice and peaceful here, but in reality, I had to ride my motorcycle 320 miles in a stiff gusting side wind of up to 45 mph.  Sometimes the Semis and I were just going 45 miles an hour down the highway.  It was the windiest day in Idaho in a long time.

Bragging Rights

OK, you have seen this painting before. This is the North Rim of Snake River waterfall near Twin Falls. This waterfalls actually has several names; including “Lagnet Falls” and “Perrine Falls”.  I prefer the former. This is the painting that received 2nd place for a Professional Idaho Landscape at this years Idaho State Fair. I am pretty proud of it. This classic landscape is perhaps my best work as of yet. My mentor had the best Professional Seascape painting; and his ended up being the best Oil painting of the fair. Anyway, back to painting.

Twin Falls Waterfall Diptych

“Waterfall Basin at North Edge of Twin Falls”, 12×24 oil on canvas, by Rog Lyngaas, 14apr08, using choate7 palette.

This is the second painting of the Twin Falls Waterfall Diptych; I suggested and made two months. The first was posted earlier, and you can see it again below.

“Waterfall at North Edge, Twin Falls”, 30×15 oil on canvas, by Rog Lyngaas, 7apr08, using choate7 palette.

This is not one of the twin falls that the city in Idaho is named after. Neither is Shoshone Falls. The actual “twin falls” is a waterfall that still exists — underwater, in a reservoir; so it is in our dreams. Yes, we have drowned the twins; for the sake of power and water.

Fred Choate has painted Twin Falls. And there are picture postcards of the Twin Falls. Someday maybe I will find one of those old postcards and paint Twin Falls from one. Until then, I will have to settle for paintings like this canyon wallfall.

I love waterfalls. Jimi Hendrix co-wrote my favorite song called “Can This Be Love”, [with Phil Keaggy’s words, I believe]. It focuses on Waterfalls. Twin Falls is the heart of south-central Idaho, just east of the big metropolis of Buhl, Idaho. It is the land of “Thousand Springs”. The whole Buhl area is just buhltiful. Early tomorrow morning, Fred and I will travel to Buhl for the Plein Aire Paintout. It is a three day event, but because of my work schedule I can only participate one day. So I chose the reception day. If given the time we may paint some Plein Aire stuff in the Buhl area.
